Our History

January 2015 The Currency Account comes to life by opening its first office in London, UK.
 

July 2015 Soft launching The Currency Account online platform and completing our first international payment.
 

November 2015 We become the UK’s first regulated financial institution approved to leverage cloud technology partnering with Amazon Web Services.
 

November 2015 Wirepayer becomes accredited as an Authorised Electronic Money Institution by the UK Financial Conduct Authority.
 

December 2015 We partner with Worldpay for secure card processing and global payments.
 

February 2016 Carter Backer Winter is appointed as our Auditors.
 

July 2016 We are featured in ‘Mail on Sunday’ and ‘The Guardian’ as one of the most competitive providers for currency services.
 

August 2016 We sign an agreement with The Royal Bank of Scotland for global banking, segregated client accounts and foreign exchange liquidity.
 

December 2016 We are accredited as a Principle Member of MasterCard Europe.
 

January 2017 We become a member of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
 

May 2018 We are re-authorised by the UK Financial Conduct Authority under PSD2.
 

August 2018 We launch our official campaign with City AM.
 

October 2018 We become an official member of the Association of Foreign Exchange and Payment Companies (AFEP).

 

June 2019 FSCom is appointed as our external Compliance Auditor.

 

November 2019 We sign an agreement with Barclays Bank UK PLC for global banking, segregated client accounts and foreign exchange liquidity.

November 2019 Wirepayer signs an agreement with Open Banking Implementation Entity (OBIE).

November 2019 Wirepayer becomes a member of SWIFT, with BIC WIRPGB22.
